5K FAQs

1. What do you do with the registration fee money?  Do just U of M grads benefit?

The proceeds from the Race are given to LRAP (Loan Repayment Assistance Program), a program that assists law grads who pursue public interest law work in paying law school loans.  Participants from other Twin Cities law schools are encouraged to identify their school on their registration form.  The proceeds from entry fees from Hamline, William Mitchell, and St. Thomas community members will go towards the general fund of LRAP-MN, supporting law grads from all schools.

2. Do I get anything for participating?

Every participant who registers prior to the early registration deadline is guaranteed a Race for Justice 5K T-Shirt.  (Long sleeve t-shirts for adults and short sleeve t-shirts for kids ages 5 and up.  Sorry, no pre-selection of sizes; various sizes available at early pick-up and on race day.)  T-Shirt supplies will be limited for those who register after the early registration deadline or on race-day.

3. Do you have awards for the race winner/age group winners?

Awards will be given for the top three runners, male and female, as well as to the top male and female law students.  The top runners may be recognized at the Race.  What these awards will be has yet to be determined, and will be based on what we are able to secure through sponsorships and donations.

4. Is online registration legitimate?

Absolutely.  In fact, we prefer that you register online if at all possible.  Active.com is a highly reputable web-based resource for fitness events nationwide.  For more information on their service, refer to their website www.active.com.  In order to register online, you need to use a credit/debit card, but it is a very easy and secure tool.  Keep in mind Active.com applies a small convenience charge for registering online.

5. Is this the same 5K run/walk that was held last year?  How do I get there?

Yes.  This is the 8th Annual Race for Justice and it’s getting bigger every year.  Like last year, the course begins and ends on Nicollet Island.  Check-in and Race-day registration are located on the grassy area in front of the Nicollet Island Pavilion, conveniently located off of the Hennepin Avenue Bridge near the Main Street/St. Anthony area.  There are several bus routes serving the area, and there is some parking available.  Please do not park at the Nicollet Island Inn.

6. Is the Race for Justice limited to law students and faculty/staff only?

No!  The Race for Justice is open to the entire community.  Feel free to invite friends and family members to participate.  Every year we hear from our participants that our route is fun for experienced runners yet easy enough for people taking on their first 5K.  If you’re a competitive runner, we are pursuing course certification and we will be utilizing chip timing provided by Anderson Race Management, our preferred timing professional.  For those folks just looking for a nice stroll with built-in cheerleaders and all to benefit a good cause, there’s plenty of RFJ fun for you too.  In addition to other local runners/walkers, we are expecting many members of the Twin Cities area legal community to participate, so it’s also a great networking opportunity.  All abilities are welcome- and strollers too!  Stroller-folk: running etiquette suggests that you line up near the back of the pack giving way to the serious runners pursuing personal best times for competition purposes.
